Our Purpose

The purpose of the International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO) is to promote scientific exchange among health care professionals in oncology about cytotoxic therapy and its impact on the oral environment (including tissues, health and function). The Society provides a multidisciplinary forum for scientists and clinicians to focus on the following areas:

  • Concepts associated with oral consequences of antineoplastic therapy
  • Novel strategies germane to cancer research
  • Educational pursuits related to cancer and oral morbidity associated with cancer therapy
  • Scientific diversity through collaboration

Our History

Since its founding in 1984, the Society has continually evolved to meet the needs of a growing and dynamic community.

What began as The Society for Clinical and Experimental Oral Oncology quickly adapted to become The Society for Oral Oncology in 1985, and just a few years later, in 1992, expanded its vision to embrace a global reach as The International Society for Oral Oncology. In 2006, the Society adopted its current name, The International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO), reflecting both its international membership and broad commitment to advancing the field. ISOO is proudly registered in the State of Washington.

A key pillar of ISOO’s growth is its longstanding alliance with the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), which began in 1998. This fruitful collaboration was formally renewed in 2008 and continues through regular Memoranda of Understanding, ensuring a strong, ongoing partnership dedicated to innovation and excellence in oral oncology care worldwide.
